We will discuss the following ideas of what to look for when purchasing or building a bird house to fit your backyard.
1. Species of bird to be attracted.
2. Where do I locate the box.
3. Do the dimensions of the box matter?
4. What to look for in nest box construction.
5. Should one worry about predators and competition from other species?

Naturescaping: Landscaping for Wildlife with Ron Larson
One of the joys of living in the Klamath Basin is the many areas to see birds and other wildlife, and that includes in your own backyard habitat. There are a few simple things anyone can do to attract more birds and beneficial insects to your yard, even if you live in the city. Ron will provide you with the fundamentals to do that and your effort should provide you with many hours of enjoyment and the satisfaction of knowing you’re helping nature.
Field Trip Saturday, April 28th
We will be taking a walking trip on a rutted dirt road along the Klamath River, visiting several different ecological types: riparian, conifer, chapparel, canyon. Wear layers, hiking shoes, bring water and snacks. This trip will end by late morning.
Meet at 8 AM at the USFWS office at California St, off of the south Hwy 97 on ramp. Carpooling is recommended. Contact Mary Ellen Sargent, 541-850-3926 with questions.
