KBAS Grants
The Klamath Basin Audubon Society offers grants to support local individuals and groups who are working to further the goals of the Society, specifically providing opportunities for all to experience and appreciate our region's wildlife, focusing on birds and other natural resources. Grants will be made to private individuals and non-profit groups for local projects. These grants will be considered in two funding cycles: July 1 to December 31 and January 1 to June 30. In order to be considered for a grant, applicants must explain how the proposed project will contribute to KBAS's mission. See below for an application. Applications may be mailed to KBAS (P.O. Box 354, Klamath Falls, OR 97601).
Further information or questions may be addressed to current KBAS President Darrel Samuels at 850-5832 or any current KBAS Board member or email Darrel at dsamuels at charter.net. Grant requests should not exceed $2000. Funding for these grants comes in large part from revenues generated by the annual Winter Wings Festival. These grants are in addition to the KBAS/Scott Education Grants which are available annually to local elementary teachers to further environmental and wildlife studies and connecting students with nature.

Scott Grants
Klamath Basin Audubon Society (KBAS) thanks the Herschel Wayne Scott and Lois Ann Scott Estates for their generosity and commitment to the children of the Klamath Basin. Since 2004, KBAS has operated a grant program on their behalf for the express purpose of awarding instructional grants to area educators in Klamath, Lake, Modoc, and Siskiyou counties in either public or private learning institutions. This program began in 1996 under the guidance of Wayne and Lois Ann Scott and was funded by Klamath Basin Audubon Society, who continues to contribute annually to this program.
Preference in grant selection will be made to those whose proposals show a balanced and integrated approach to the study of the environment, focusing on the areas of botany, zoology, geography, climate, etc. The majority of funds will be disbursed to elementary school teachers in the winter term.
Each year, 8-10 grants up to $250 are awarded by December 15. KBAS is most grateful to Wayne and Lois Ann Scott for all the time, energy, and love they invested in our Chapter educational programs. This heritage will continue through the generosity of their estates in the Grant Program that bears their names.

Wayne and Lois Ann Scott Grant - Guidelines and Rules
- The purpose of the grant program is to provide assistance to public and private schools or educational organizations, for conservation programs, with an emphasis on grades K-6. The selection committee may consider other wildlife conservation education programs that provide outreach to children under the age of 18 who live in the Klamath Basin.
- The Klamath Basin Chapter will budget $2000 annually using interest from the Scott endowment and additional chapter funds. The intent of the chapter is to maintain the principal of the Scott endowment, but at the KBAS Board's discretion, the principal could be used for educational projects with the understanding that the funds used would be replenished as soon as financially possible. Fund raising events that the chapter undertakes should consider contributing a percentage to add to or replace the principal in the Scott endowment account.
- The Scott endowment funds are to remain in a separate account from KBAS chapter funds, to be administered by the chapter Treasurer and two additional board members (or appointed KBAS members. Two signatures are required to remove funds from this account and deposit them in the KBAS checking account.
- Decisions regarding selection of elementary classrooms or other applicants for grant monies will be made by selection committee composed of the grant coordinator, one KBAS board member, and one other board member or KBAS member. The selection committee may be expanded beyond three and have as many as six members as deemed necessary by the KBAS board.
- Criteria for grant selection:
- Each classroom /applicant may request a grant of $250.00

- Grant projects must demonstrate achievable and relevant wildlife conservation and education goals.

The grant coordinator should make a short presentation summarizing the projects to the general membership at the first available meeting in the fall.
- A grant coordinator will be named by the KBAS chapter President and will have the responsibility to distribute grant applications and information no later than October 30 of each year with a submission deadline from applicants no later than November 15. Grant information will also be made available on the Klamath Basin Audubon website at www.klamathaudubon.org. The selection committee will be responsible for meeting by December 2 of each year to evaluate applications and make recommendations to the Board at the December Board meeting. Upon approval of the applications at the December Board meeting, the KBAS Treasurer and board designees will be directed to remove funds from the Scott endowment account allowing the KBAS Treasurer to fund the grants by December 15.
